Hi From the Dominican Republic!

Hi!  How are you all?  Hope all is well.  The flowers on the trees and bushes and plants are gorgeous.  When we've done temple work (which we try to do every day since we are in temple housing) we are struck with how beautiful the people are.  The sessions are in many languages, English, French, Dutch and Spanish, since the people come from different islands here.
I'm amazed, the billboards, posters, signs and advertisements show people dressed very modestly.  We may have not traveled down the right streets, but here in the Capitol, it seems more conservative than America.
We went to a dedication of a chapel on Sunday.  It was the first building in that area to be air conditioned.  They had fans in the chapel all going, but when the service started, they shut them off.
The traffic rule seems to be if there is space, fill it.  Cars, motorcycles, bikes will just fill in all around you.  There is no such thing as lanes.  At the intersections while you wait for a light, people sell cell phones and bananas coming right up to the car.
The mission President and his wife greet new missionaries and say goodbye to ones leaving by having a temple session.
We look for American labels on the food so it is safe to eat, the milk is like evaporated milk only in a carton.  We must wash the vegetables in Clorox water.
Hope you all have a great week.  Good luck with the debates tonight!
Love,
Susan & Jim
