Some fun information: Yesterday, our Mission President met with us and reported on a 3 day seminar he had with mission presidents in this area. Elder Holland's name was mentioned, and Elder Zwick was one of Leaders ...Judith and Minerva know him well! Our mission president said he was told at the seminar that since October Conference, that more than 12,000 young people have submitted their papers to serve a mission! This may be in the Church News
Also, a member of the Church returned to to his homeland in Cuba and was teaching from a Liahona. A group was formed and SL was contacted. The area presidency just went and ordained a Priesthood leader to head this group. Are there branches there? Has the land been dedicated for the preaching of the gospel? Will the Church be recognized and given authorization to send missionaries? Anyway, the Mission President was very excited! He said the Cuban people are wonderful!
He, President Rodriguez also said that M Russell Nelson ( it made me wonder if he meant M Russell Ballard since he's always talking about missionary work), but anyway, was on his way to a missionary meeting with the First Presidency and the Twelve, and asked his wife to pray for him. He was going to present his idea to call 18 year old boys to serve. At the meeting, he presented his proposal to the First Presidency and the Twelve. They supported it. "Then one counsellor asked what about the young women? And the other counsellor said let's move the age to 19. It was voted on by all 15 brethren. ((This came from the AP who translated as the Mission President spoke.))
