Hi!

Hi!  How are you all today?
We saw some cool parrots outside our dining room window this morning at breakfast.  Big, solid green colored parrots with yellow beaks and yellow around the eyes.  There must have been a dozen sitting on the wires of the next apartment building.   That was today.
An elder started liking a girl he was teaching, felt guilty like he didn't belong here, and decided to give it up and go home.  He's supposed to go home in June.  He's been in the office the last few days, we prepared his going home packet, (not his flight, his Mom is paying for that), and we've been praying that he'll change his mind.  He looked kind of unkempt one day and I told him to go shave.  Later, he looked like a missionary.
But yesterday in the morning he came and said the President said to ask us for his passport.  We opened the safe, no passport.  It was still in the area offices processing his visa which had expired!
No one else was in the office, so Dad and I drove to the area offices to check on his passport.  They are doing the roads there (mostly by hand with maybe a front loader or backhoe), anyway, Dad drove over and around piles of dirt, rubble, near the edge of huge ditches and drop offs.  We got there, the people were on vacation.  (It's 9:30, the AP's are picking him up at 10 to leave for the airport, and his flight leaves at 12:30, at it takes 30-40 minutes to get there.)
Some other employees hurried to help us, opened a safe, brought out a box, and I found the passport.  They photocopied it and Dad signed for it.  Then we realized, his visa hadn't been renewed.  We got back to the office at 10:10, explained to the elder that maybe they wouldn't check the visa like it was explained to us.  Then the AP called, explained they couldn't make it back and could we take him to the airport (aeropuerto).  Dad said his visa had expired.  The AP, Elder Chinchilla called the president and said to take $100 with us (4000 pesos) in case there was a fine.  We have no credit card, and don't pick up the money for the petty cash or caja chica until 10:30, and there are usually lines.
Dad said there wasn't time to go to the bank, we swung by our apartment, went through all the locks, got some cash dad had stored, and hurried to the airport with the elder, trying to be encouraging, uplifting, wish him well, etc.  The elder is from Ogden, Utah, his parents are non-members, divorced.  His dad lives in Florida (don't contact the records say), and his Mom in Ogden on 38th and Grant, not a great part of town.  Somehow he found the Church and wanted to serve a mission.  I guess he has a scholarship waiting for him at Dixie State in St. George.
We had a prayer with him, got to the airport about 11ish, unloaded his stuff, and got him to the Delta check in, then he went to the immigration line, and we waited near the door in case he needed to come back for the $100.  I guess they never checked his visa.  He was off--(salio with an accent.)  We felt like saddened parents who sent their kid off!  But then back to the office, and back to work.
Hope all is well with you!! We love you!

Hi! How are you all!

Hi!  How are you all?  Dad is sick tonight.  I must have caught a cold on the plane, now it's his turn.  We had a busy week in the office.  The elders are so great to work with.  A new sister came from Guatemala today, her new companion was 6 months with us in our branch at Nizao--sister Becar.  She lives 45 minutes to Disneyland and is the last of 5 kids in her family to serve.  Her mother had the other 4 c-sections and she just came natural!  A miracle she said
Another miracle.  Our office elders who take the mail to the south, were out tracting in Azua and discovered their truck keys (only 3 elders drive in the mission), house keys and office keys were left on the table in their house.  At home there was a crack by the window, a stick was leaning on the truck that had a little limb on it that was small enough to slip through the crack, pick up the keys off the table and bring them back outside to the elders.  It was a miracle!  It may have been the elder's grandpa who had passed away that helped?
Another miracle.  The new senior, area doctor came a few weeks ago.  We met him at a gathering and all he could talk about was a law suit against him.  He would have to return home to take care of it, and he wasn't sure how that would work with his mission assignment.  On Monday he and his wife were welcomed at senior FHE and his wife encouraged him to tell of their miracle.  He said last Thursday they arrived home in Arizona and what was to have taken 3 to 5 weeks to resolve (a malpractice suit by a looney he said that wanted 5 times what his insurance coverage would pay.  This suit had been going on for 6 years.  Anyway, they were told the law changed the day before and that they settled out of court for 4% of his insurance coverage.  So they were back on the plane in time for him to perform a surgery on Tuesday morning--because of a car wreck for a boy in northern Dominican Republic who had been run into by the missionaries.  He said the Lord took care of the law suit, knowing he was needed to perform a surgery here that was "his specialty."  Oh, the Lord is in the details.  Hey, I could use your faith and prayers this week, I'm going to speak in Sac Mtg in Spanish!
Oh, and needing comfort one day, I just randomly opened the B of M right to one of my favorite parts!
We love you all!  We pray for you constantly!  You are so wonderful--each of you!  You bless our lives so much!  What an honor to be your parents and Grandparents!!

Our Sunday School class, The Office Field Trip, Our Easter/Farewell Dinner

Hi Kids & Grandkids!!

Hi!  We feel like kids some days, we have such fun!  How are you all doing?  From what I hear you are doing awesome!
Brent & Judith and Derek were just in Idaho working on housing, it could be building a home.  Brent just got asked to help John Welch do an anniversary edition of Jesus the Christ.  His book on Grace is being proof read and is close to being finished.

Darren & Jolynn and kids have been busy with Patrick's play, soccer skills classes, Patrick and Maylin were in the school talent show, Sydney and Celeste one at school too.  Darren finished his book and will do editing.  He also had disciplinary councils at church.  He and Jolynn are going to teach a marriage class.

Amy and Jake and Grace are doing well, they are enjoying watching her grow.  He's been working on a house in Clearfield and teaching the young people in.  Sunday School.  Amy teaches the Laurels.  They are going to Dallas to see Andrea.  Janice Murray said it was fun to see my family at the baby blessing for Grace!

Annette and Caleb and Hyrum are doing well at learning to deal with 2 year old diabetes.  They have an endocrinologist for pediatrics.  He is is doing well as the scout master and got a huge promotion at work!! She is doing pastel pictures of the Savior in an art class, is tops in her fencing and music chairman in the ward.

Ashley and Kelland and Claire are cute with each other as she grows and changes and matures.  Kelland is tops in his school at helping, teaching and interacting with kids in tutoring, technology and fun.  Ashley has done a great job as a kindergarten teacher.  They are both working on their masters and Ashley is the Sec. in YW.

When I try to list what you are all doing, I do so poorly, you are all doing much better than I can describe.
Dad and I just had a fun week!  On Saturday, he and I, President & Hermana Rodriguez, and Elders Kirk (from Murray, Chinchilla (from Guatemala), Bryner (from West Jordan), Pitti (from Panama), Reeder (from Logan) Aguiniga (from Mexico), spent the day walking through the Colon where Columbus had a fort, palace of sorts etc.     On Sunday, Dad and I gave our final March lesson with the youth in our branch at Nizao.  We took oatmeal and peanut butter cookies and handed out Book of Mormon reading charts, and colored pencils that we had to go to an office supply store to buy (grocery stores and other stores don't carry crayons or pencils, it is strange.) I played the piano/organ in Sacrament Mtg.  The mission president and his wife came as speakers and sat right by the back of the piano where the sound comes out.  The numbers are posted just before we start, and a little girl comes up to help me.  Dad said if she hadn't left he would have come picked her up.  Ugh!
Then in the evening the same elders plus Elder Klein, the new AP from Arizona all came to dinner.  We honored Elder Kirk and Elder Bryner as they are leaving.  One elder said when you get home Sister Schmidt, we'll all get together and cook you a dinner.  So fun!  I worked with Young Women off and on for 40 years, it is fun now to work with young men!  They have been loading mattresses, bed frames, luggage, mosquito nets, fans, and missionaries for the last few days!
On Monday we had the office meeting.  The President had us go around the room and each read some scriptures as he honored Easter.  Dad said I read better than usual--scary.  We had tons of elders come in, finished our packets for some new missionaries just assigned that day and headed that night to FHE with the seniors, a presentation on Humanitarian projects.  We should have taken pictures when we did the projects in Layton.
Tuesday was transfers--traslados.  Nineteen new missionaries and Dad taught them, I took pictures.  Hermana Rodriguez asked us to chaperone the lunch after while they went to eat with the missionaries going home.  So many missionaries shake our hand, call out our names, and speak with us--it is humbling.  I am getting ready tonight to go help Andrea and Ross from Friday to Friday.  We love you all so much!  Hope we are representing you all okay.  Love, Mom & Dad

The Church's website here in the DR

An email forwarded by Mom, (she makes comments about the website picture below):

Hi,
Several of you have asked about the Church's website here for non-members - it prensamormona.do.  It has some wonderful articles that have been written about a number of the humanitarian projects that the Haws' have worked on and the Area Pres.' visit with the First Lady of the DR among other things... The most recent article is about all of the new missionaries, with a picture of the AP's from the West Mission that Rob took.

Kids--the first picture is our AP's Elder Kirk from Murray and Elder Chinchilla from Guatemala.  They look so nice don't they.  I'll have to send you some pictures of all of them.
How are you all?  We love and pray for each of you!
Love, Mom

Jill Hannah Tucker! Hooray! #5 or Cinco

Hi everyone!  Just got this email coming back from Church.  It is pretty exciting!  So, we called Andrea and Ross, and then got on skype so we could see the baby.  What a miracle!--the baby, a mom with diabetes, dad completing his project for the judge just before, and skype!!  Congratulations Andrea & Ross!
You might want to try skyping them.  The doctor was taking the baby Tuesday, but she decided to come on her own.  I'm going to Dallas the 29th till 5 abril, but I wish it were sooner so I could help more.
Jim and I drove about 45 minutes back from Church after meeting with the the branch president Acino (A-Keeno), he wants me to speak in Sac Mtg in April.  Jim and I have been teaching the youth for marzo (March) the lessons for youth outlined by the Church.  I give a few paragraphs, which is my testimony and an experience and Jim gives the rest of the lesson.  He does well!  I've taught youth for years yet can't say a whole lot, so sad-(-but I'm working on it each day!).
I downloaded some mini videos from the church's site in Spanish that go along with the lesson..  They watch the videos from our laptop sitting on a classroom table (Thanks Kelland). I should take a picture of the class next week for our last one so I can send it to you. Oh, and we finish the lesson with cookies that I can do.
Anyway, another baby is born.  She is darling!!  Her Mom and Dad look terrific!  They are such good parents like all of you!  This is #70 great grandchild for my mom and dad, and 17th grandchild for Dad and I.. Hope you're all fine  We love you all so very much!  We are 31 now in the family!  Welcome Jill Hannah Tucker!!
Oh and we will be home in a year and Dad is planning a reunion.  What is the best time for a reunion summer of 2014.  We fly into SLC airport, March 10th of next year.  We can have a mini reunion then and a bigger one in the summer--he's thinking of 8 motel rooms in West Yellowstone or maybe a lodge is available?  He will make reservations about 6 months from now.  Anyway, being with you all would be heaven!!
Love U!!
Mom & Dad   Oh and the new counselor in the branch presidency back from a mission in Guatemala, called me from the Sunday School class to ask if I would play the piano--again or for a calling? neither Dad or I could tell. (Smile!)
